CFUW St. Catharines is a group of approximately 230 women who meet regularly to support a variety of community projects, as well as to socialize and network. Membership is open to ALL women who are interested in participating in the club’s programs and activities, and who support our organization’s goals, namely to:

  • Promote & encourage the higher education of women
  • Participate in public, social and cultural affairs with an opportunity for expression of united opinion, andDSCN0020
  • Cooperate in the aims & projects of CFUW National and CFUW Ontario.

In addition to our monthly general meetings, our club has a variety of interest groups that provide more opportunities for friendship and career networking. Our annual Spring House Tour raises funds for scholarships and awards for women studying at local high schools, Niagara College and Brock University and for local charities that help women and children.

Other community contributions have included providing books for children, Adopt-a-Road, and working with local, provincial, and federal politicians to help local residents through initiatives such as our recent effort to help homeless youth in the Niagara Region.

CFUW’s History

Founded in 1919, the Canadian Federation of University Women (CFUW), is a voluntary, non-profit, self-funded non-governmental organization of close to 7,000 women in 100 Clubs located in every province of Canada. CFUW/FCFDU members are active in public affairs, work together for equality for women and girls, to raise the social, economic, political and legal status of women, as well as to improve education, the environment, peace, justice and human rights.

CFUW/FCFDU is the largest of the 58 member affiliates of the Graduate Women International (GWI). CFUW has special consultative status at the United Nations. CFUW belongs to the Sectoral Committee on Education of the Canadian Sub-Commission for UNESCO.

CFUW/FCFDU, its Clubs and its members support the CFUW/FCFDU Charitable Trust that awards fellowships for post-graduate education.
