To our CFUW membership:
The House Tour team has been following the growing concerns for the COVID-19 virus and the increasing restrictions that are being put in place by the government. Looking to other countries that have been living with this virus, we are certain it will not resolve before May 3rd. Our committee met via a conference call to discuss postponing the event or to cancel it. It was not an easy decision. In the end we decided to cancel the 2020 House Tour.
Postponing until the fall would mean that the homeowners, florists, our outlets, our volunteers, ticket buyers, sponsors, and donors would all be left with the same uncertainty that we are all feeling now. The economy has had a serious negative downturn. We also must consider that work for the 100th Anniversary House Tour has to begin in the fall, so working on two at the same time seems overwhelming.
Recognizing that we have a CFUW responsibility to education for young women, and have more recently supported local agencies that help women and children, we will ask our sponsors and our donors if they will support these causes without the House Tour this year. Together, money pledged to date totals approximately $5500, about half of our normal scholarship commitments.
Thank you to all who had purchased a ticket in advance and who have now graciously donated that money to the House Tour.
If you haven’t purchased a ticket, please consider making a donation now to our Charitable Fund through the House Tour link, receive a tax receipt and help us achieve our goals. You can click here: House Tour Donations and then click on the yellow donate button, or you may send an e-transfer to email@example.com.
Together, we can do this!
Judy and I would like to thank everyone for the tremendous support we have had in order to get us to this point. Without you we couldn’t have done it. While it is a sad time, we have our health and we have made new and lasting friendships, which has always been a wonderful bonus of working on the house tour team.
Thank you and keep safe.
