President’s April Message

Well I think that Spring might just arrive, although it certainly was questionable recently! I was sad to have to cancel our March meeting with our speaker Margaret Wente.  Hopefully she will be willing to speak to us next year, perhaps in a more reliable weather month! Sometimes we forget that we do live in Canada after all.

Spring for CFUW St. Catharines brings us to our AGM , which will be on April 18th this year.  Please note, our April Meeting is the 3rd Tuesday, not the 2nd Tuesday of the month.  The reason? The church, because of Easter services, is not available and we decided to change the date, not the venue!

The AGM has many important things that will need your participation. Marilyn Wallace will present the slate for the New Executive, which will need your approval.  Nancy Ferris- Hostick will need your input into serious matters that she will need to vote on at the National CFUW AGM on your behalf.  The AGM is in Richmond, BC this year in June.  Budgets need to be approved, which will include our new projects that will replace The Gift of Reading. I guess “replace” is really not the right word, as it was a project that cannot be replaced, but we did, through much research, come up with some exciting new projects that you can get involved in.  And our speaker will certainly make the evening memorable and a “not to be missed” event.

Tickets for The Spring Fling will be available at the April meeting. This year we chose Coppola’s Ristorante  on Carlton St., St. Catharines for its convenient location, lots of free parking and its amazing menu. Plus no buffet! It’s table service! You definitely will not be hungry or disappointed! And we have a special surprise. Our beautiful Syrian Family, Mohammad, Nuha and their 3 children Rama, Reetaj and new baby Yazan are going to be there to meet you. It has now been one year since they arrived in Canada.

And don’t forget to get your tickets for the House Tour on May 7th.  It is going to be another winner, with really interesting houses.  This of course is so important for CFUW St. Catharines and its awarding of scholarships and helping women and children in our community.  It makes me proud to know how much we do in St. Catharines.

And the birds were louder this morning!!
